Happy Weekend! Let's LINK Up

Let the vacation begin! I am so excited to shake off all the day to day work stress and to officially be on Spring break because in theory that means we finally get to venture outdoors, if mother nature cooperates. I just opened a fortune cookie that read "Your life becomes more and more of an adventure" so I'm taking that as a good sign from our fave Chinese take out spot Sweet Gardens, because I always get the best fortunes from them. What's on your agenda this weekend? I'm hoping it's warm enough to take the boys Easter egg hunting at The Carl Schurz Park or to see a musical performance from Gustafer Yellowgold {both events are free}.

I hope you plan to let go of whatever may be stopping you from living in the moment and for starters here's a few lovely distractions from around the web:

NYC subway line inspired Easter eggs.

Awesome Quentin Tarantino book covers {spotted on exPress-O}.

DIY pinata invitation.

How to make a baby {It's not what you think}

Bring your child's favorite book to life {I have to find this book, I can't believe I've never heard of it}.

If colored wedding dresses are more your style.

How to look fabulous mixing florals and stripes. Try out the look with this blazer and this skirt.

Pining Over Pinterest: Channeling Warmer days with Color

I'm trying to look past the frigid temperatures by reminding myself that the boys and I are officially on Spring break despite still needing to adorn a hat and gloves. It seems like over the past week my eyes have been drawn to vibrant pops of color that make me instantly happy when I look at them.
1. Sprite and gummi bears   // 2. mix & match maids // 3.  Rainbow heart nail tutorial // 4.   Citrus sorbet  // 5.  A colorful tablescape

A stunning bouquet filled with texture and fun colors.

Subtle splashes of Pantone color in the kitchen.

Rainbow angel food cake that's too cute to cut.

I have yet to jump on the washi tape bandwagon but I'm severely jealous of all the fab, DIYs I've seen online.

To eat or not to eat this beautiful salad

Just a reminder to let the sunshine in!

I freakin' love how much these graphic pillows remind me of sunset strolls on the beach.

I hope these Pinterest faves of mine help take your mind off the cold {unless you already live some wear warm} & brighten your day!

Fashion Frenzy: Duro Olowu for JCPenney

Most of my friends and fam know that I am not a fashionista by any means and that my hubby is my stylist. I do most of my shopping online at Old Navy because I usually have the monsters in tow and trying on clothes with two kids under 10 doesn't make for a great fashion show, it's more like a mommy meltdown waiting to happen. If I have the chance to sneak a few minutes for myself before my commute home from the Upper west side to Queens I hit the usual stores like H&M or Forever21. With wedding season and warmer weather approaching I've been flipping through my stacks of  magazines for inspiration, which was when I spotted designer  Duro Olowu and his new Jcpenney line that hit stores this month. I just had to share it with all of you!

This Nigerian born, London based designer has created an affordable line that screams everything I love: Bold prints + lots of Vibrant colors! I'm sure if his designs are good enough for first lady Michelle Obama to rock during interviews with Oprah and during press conferences then the rest of us will standout in a crowd & look just as chic at our upcoming events. Here's a few of my favorite looks from the new line and checkout JCP's site for more fabulous pieces!

What do you think of JcPenney's new trendier lines for apparel,  accessories and housewares? Do you have any fave's from the statement making pieces of the Duro Olowu line for JCP? Mine is the vintage- metallic one featured just below.

and in case you were wondering how our Flotus rocks her Duro Olowu designer pieces, take a look

Happy Weekend! Let's LINK Up

Happy  Friday and National Women's day! Let us celebrate women and the journey we've had through history, especially when you think of what our mothers, grandmothers and great- grandmas have persevered through to lay the foundation for where many of us are today. I am fortunate to have amazing supportive female family and friends who guide me through life's obstacles, keep me driven and focused and remind me to take time for myself. What are you guys up to this weekend? I wish we could just float far away from all this snowy NYC weather to somewhere warm. I get to spend some much needed alone time with my 29 mos. old monster Tristan Riley while his big brother spends some qt time with his grandparents. With wedding season in full effect, I'll also be assisting my boss lady and long time friend Fouzia of  My Bridal Budget during meetings with clients & shopping for reception venues. I can't wait to check out Williamsburg restaurant My Moon in Brooklyn, it's really eclectic and has a beautiful outdoor space. The Hubby and I may have to go on a date night excursion{because travelin' from Kew Gardens to Williamsburg is just that} for great food and ambiance!

If you have a moment and need to drift away, here are a few lovely distractions:

How can you not be happy with these oxfords on your feet?

I bet this soup tastes as good as it looks.

The perfect play-area for your tots at the airport {spotted on A Cup of Jo}.

Color your space with Canary & Fuschia.

Say your I do's on the High Line in NYC and take this quiz to see what celebrity you'd most likely marry.

Cherry patterns, polka-dots and that iconic white dress will have you coveting the new Marilyn Monroe inspired line at Macy's.

A 60's mod Photobooth DIY that's vibrant & fun.

What boy didn't drool over Topanga from the T.V show Boy meets world [my husband included}? Well she's got a new spin-off show and looks fabulous!

Undisputed, NYC is the best city to raise kids and yes I am biased!

How to decipher if you are a horrible tweeter. If you have doubts you probably are!

Add splashes of color to your kitchen design.

Live in the NYC area  and looking for fun events that allow you to meet adventurous, driven, intelligent, beautiful women like yourself? Check out Urban Girl Squad, and She Dares.
