Celebrating Life After the Storm: Sweet Gifts for Rainbow Babies and Mama

It's been said that "The greater the storm, the brighter the rainbow." I honestly can't think of any better reason to find joy in the passing of life's dark clouds, than with the birth of a new child, and a few sweet gifts to celebrate.

By my third month of pregnancy in February of 2019, I remember the hubby and I praying and hoping that despite the previous sonograms that our twins would be ok. We'd already gone through so much unexpected loss as a family, such an exciting addition was just the ray of sunshine we all desperately needed. Appointment after appointment my HCG levels were dropping, as Mike clung to every glimmer of hope and searched daily for positive outcomes from strangers in forums for new and expecting families.

Having been preggo twice before, but understanding that no two pregnancies were the same, it was noticeable that my symptoms from this pregnancy were different.

Almost too good to be true!

I didn't have the tender, sore boobs, all-day nausea, or the annoying overproduction of saliva that I had with our other children. Mike reminded me to stay positive but I was already bracing myself mentally because my body just felt off.

By definition, a rainbow baby is a baby born after the loss of another baby due to a miscarriage, stillbirth, or passing after birth. I ended up having a missed miscarriage and needing a DNC, as we realized that my body was just unable to let go naturally.

On the week of my birthday, recovering and grieving was definitely not how I thought I'd start a new year and my next twirl around the sun. Hubby and I had pretty much made up our minds, and figured since we were creeping closer to our 40's, 2020 would be our last try to expand our family.

AND GUESS WHAT???

Sure enough, despite the fear and anxiety that came along with surviving and thriving through a global pandemic, we were blessed with the gift of our Lil' monster #3, who'll be joining our family this spring!

Being the color-obsessed, joy seeker, and celebrator of life that I am, I love the hope that rainbow babies symbolize. Although we could never replace or forget the bundles of joy we lost, I thought these thoughtful and sweet gifts would be a great way to honor our angels, welcome a new baby, and congratulate mama.
