"Stay Close to People that Feel Like Sunlight"
My girls, Natacha, Venesa, Marta and I met in the hallways of our high school Brooklyn Tech, so hanging out in BK is always a good time for us to reminisce on the good ole days while creating new memories. We can't ever seem to get over how much the neighborhoods have changed in the last two decades and although we're not a fan of all the gentrified changes we did enjoy spending a summer night in our favorite borough. If you're ever in the neighborhood, here are a few fun ways to get out and celebrate while chilling in Williamsburg:
WESTLIGHT
Highly recommended by Marta's father, we ended up starting off our early evening 22 floors up, with insanely spectacular skyline views of the city from Westlight at the William Vale Hotel. This swanky rooftop bar is the perfect place to go if you're hosting guests from out of town, to impress a date or to chat it up with girlfriends. You'll enjoy tasty lite bites that you can't ever go wrong with sharing amongst the table and can choose from quite an extensive list (felt like we were flipping through the menu pages forever) of creative, albeit pricey $18 tasty cocktails.
Skip the birthday cake and mix it up with some truly unique ice cream creations like saffron passion fruit, ginger peach sorbet and matcha rocky road, that rotate on the menu. It's pretty cool that they pasteurize their own ice cream base -- using locally-sourced, hormone-free and additive-free dairy -- in their Brooklyn kitchen.
THE BROOKLYN KITCHEN
Of course it's fun to sit around and eat together but it's just as fun to stand around and cook together! The Brooklyn Kitchen is a cool cooking school on a mission to change the world by teaching people how to cook like grown-ups. You'd think after living with a chef for over 15 years I'd know how to make more than spaghetti and meat sauce, unfortunately, nope. The Brooklyn Kitchen specializes in interactive and educational experiences that foster community and redefine home cooking for everyone. Visit them for a memorable, in-person gathering in their spacious kitchens designed to energize and inspire.
DOMINO PARK
At this gorgeous 5 acre park you and your crew can take in the views from the East River while enjoying a yoga class, having a picnic or chowing down on tacos from Tacocino.
FOOD TRUCK FRIDAY'S at SMORGASBURG (image Facebook)
Starting today, Friday, July 12, and continuing each Friday throughout the entire summer, find a curated selection of food trucks and a bar run by Smorgasburg at the corner of N. 6th and Kent Ave. in Williamsburg. They'll have 4-6 food trucks each week + beer, wine, and cider, each week from Noon to 9pm. As always, it's free to enter, just pay for what you eat and drink. You can also check Smorgasburg in Williamsburg on Saturdays from 11 am - 6 pm.
STREET ART STROLL
After all the good eats and drinks, you could easily just walk around the hood and take in all the fun street art at every turn. We found one that we absolutely loved and ended up having an impromptu dance party and strutted our stuff while passerby's that were feeling our vibe jumped in for group selfies. Nothing like care-free nights in Brooklyn!
How do you enjoy celebrating Birthday's with your tribe in your city?
