Elated with Etsy: Shop Spotlight on De-Mes ' Tiks New York

The first thing that comes to my mind when looking at this Fall preview line from DemestiksNewYork is vintage glam meets fun, African prints. Fashion week in NYC is right around the corner, so I thought I'd search Etsy for some fashion forward finds and discovered these designs by Reuben Reuel. Can't you see Solange Knowles gracing a stage in one of these pieces? From peplum pants suits and tea length skirts to everything in between these bold, statement making prints are sassy and cute, don't ya think?

The looks that are mostly made from fabrics and trims from the NYC Garment District have been featured in Instyle Magazine and Bust magazine. The price points make this line seem like an affordable luxury for everyone's closet! Make sure you follow the designer on Instagram @reuel _reuel for updates on new items & sales. Which one of these vibrant looks could you see yourself wearing?

Happy Weekend! Let's LINK Up

Happy weekend guys! With the first day of school in NYC approaching, I finally feel like the days have slowed down a bit and we plan to savor every sunshine day we have left. What's on your to do list for the weekend? I have a final walk through meeting for a My Bridal Budget couple to discuss the details of their September, country chic wedding at Queens County Farm. Afterwards the boys and are hoping to spend the afternoon picnicking in Central park with a few of my friends from high school. The one fabulous thing about graduating from Brooklyn Tech is that even after our ten year reunion we try to meet up annually and thanks to Facebook and Instagram we are always in touch. Opposed to the adults only venues we've met up at in the past, this year we'll get to meet each others adorable kiddies we've seen in pics. I am absolutely in love with classic cars so the Hubby and the monsters will indulge me in my fascination by taking me this Sunday to the VintageVolkswagen car show . Seeing as it's at Governors Island we'll also be able to let the kids go for a spin on the carnival rides at Fete Paradiso . I hope you all enjoy what's predicted to be a beautiful, sunny weekend & if you have some moments to spare;

Here are my favorite finds from around the web:

5 other events worth checking out this weekend // Arthur Ashe Kids Day // Orly Genger's Red, Yellow, Blue Family Workshop // Summer Literary Festival // Chelsea Bazaar // AfroPunk Festival

These lesser know locations are perfect for your next NYC photo backdrop & here's a  How to Guide on taking better snaps on Instagram.

Sporty, Sexy, Glam, sums up this new Makeup line.

If we have to accept that Fall is coming why not embrace it while sporting this quilted coat.

chalkboard nail kit, perfect for back to school.

Have you ever heard of Burning Man? My friend Dorkys is taking time to reflect and to find out how bad ass she really is.

Noahs Ark rebuilt.

Sometimes the most amazing details are right under your feet.

Elated with Etsy: Back to School Favorite Picks

Many of you have already sent the kiddies back to the classroom, as the rest of us moms & dads are gearing up for the first day of school over the next few weeks and are finishing up back to school shopping. I wish that Etsy existed when I was a kid because there are just so many unique, fun finds to set your child of any age apart from the rest of their friends. Whether it's their first day of preschool or you're sending your teen off to college you are bound to find some pretty awesome supplies and bags for everyone. I had such a hard time narrowing down my favorite picks, here's just a few finds that caught my eye.

Lil' Monsters in NYC: The Art Exhibition "Lightness of Being"

One of the greatest things about living in a city like New York is that you can always find amazing, free public displays of art to introduce your kids to. The first Saturday in August happened to be a rainy, damp one that couldn't keep thousands of New Yorkers and visitors indoors simply because it was the first weekend of Summer Streets and everyone seemed determined to enjoy the 7 miles of open space.  After spending our morning downtown at Foley Square we decided, despite the gloominess of the day we'd walk over to City Hall park to check out the whimsical, Public Art Fund exhibit Lightness of Being.

CJ was amazed at how he could see the city's towering buildings through a colorful Suncatcher {a pergola created by Daniel Buren}, that on a sunny day reflects beams of vibrant hues on the ground. We admit that it was just as cool to look through as rain drops danced on the spectrum of colors.

Olaf Breunings, The Humans resemble funny looking creatures in one of the many children's adventure books CJ has read over the years. His favorite figure by far was the one he pretended was a traitor to his army and he had to attack with a bow and arrow to save us all from impending doom.

While catching a glimpse of James Angus's replicated John Deere Model D tractor you'll feel like your eyes are playing tricks on you, as you realize it's shape isn't quite what it seems.

Buzzing it Down, A modern totem pole by Gary Webb.

These Untitled pieces created by Franz West, of various shapes and textures resembled colorful tornadoes, or spinning tops.

Head over to City Hall park and let your imagination carry you away as you take in the creative works of the 11 international artists featured. The Lightness of Being will be on display through December 13th, 2013.

TRENDscending Time // A Fresh Pixie Haircut

Social media was all a buzz last week when the Queen Bee, singer, Beyonce posted pics of her new short do on Instagram. I personally thought it was a great change for her, seeing as we've seen her with that long golden mane for several years now. Pixie cuts scream, feminine with a touch of bad*ss sassiness that I absolutely adore. There have been many times that I've seen a woman in passing with this short, sophisticated haircut and I instantly imagined myself in the salon chair, with eyes closed & finger crossed. Hoping to twirl out feeling like a brand new me. During both of my pregnancies I debated whether or not to chop it all off for something a little more low on maintenance. Anytime I've gotten close to going through with it, all I could ever think of is that scene from one of my favorite films,  Steel Magnolias when Julia Robert's character bursts into tears after her daring decision to cut it all off. Sadly the closest I have come to a style so bold thus far is a edgy, asymmetrical bob when I turned the  big 3-0.

From the infamous Twiggy to the celebs of today and on the streets of cities everywhere, women of all ages have shown us there are so many ways to rock a fresh pixie. Undoubtedly it's a timeless style we'll see grace runways, film & magazine covers for years to come.  Have you ever chopped it all off for something a little more freeing? Do you have a fave celebrity who has adorned a short coif?

A Cause for Jubilation : Some Creativity in your Cup of Jo

There's nothing like a cup of coffee to pick you up to start your Monday morning, or every morning of the week if you ask me. Wouldn't it be awesome if they came with such amazing works of art like this? Japanese artist Kazuki Yamamoto can transform your latte into beautiful foam 3D designs {using a toothpick and a spoon} that will make your day even more enjoyable. Based in Osaka, Japan he also creates flat designs of The Mona Lisa, Snoopy, Disney, Manga characters and more. Check out the video down below on how he creates one of his out-of the box designs and be sure to follow the artist on twitter to see more of his artwork.

Happy Friday! Let's LINK Up

In my case, when you have summers off I guess everyday is Friday, so for the rest of you it's time to celebrate the arrival of the weekend. Most of my mom friends are thrilled that summer vacation is almost over but I guess since I'm a teacher and it means back to work, I don't share that same sentiment. I'm trying to hold on to every sunny day and summer breeze and some how still squeeze in our first trip to the beach.
Our great debate for the weekend is whether or not to head back downtown to Foley square for free zip-lining {we got there at 10am, and the line was closed}with only two Saturday's left to enjoy Summer Streets. We've also been anticipating this weekend because tomorrow is National S'mores day! We've been dreaming of the marshmallow, chocolatey combo and  I've been scouring yelp for the best place to have them, otherwise we will have to break out the Graham crackers to make our own. I've been told to head to Smorgasburg for a taste from S'more bakery. Do you s'mores lovers out there have any good recipes or know a good place to try them? What do you guys have planned for the weekend?

Here's a few of my favorite links to carry you through the weekend:

Pining Over Pinterest: Just Peachy Keen

Just the other day I watched my son Tristan take a bite into this humongous peach as he closed his eyes and shook his head in pure delight, juice dribbling down his chin into the crevices of his neck. Pinning on Pinterest all things peachy also made me think of the whimsical children's book James and the Giant Peach and reminded me of how when my oldest son was little he thought it was amazing that this boy and those silly creatures all magically lived in one. Before Summer comes to an end I'd like to have a slice of peach pie and maybe a glass or two of peach sangria.

It just isn't quite summer without a few delicious, plump peaches, wouldn't you agree

Lil' Monsters in NYC: Summer Stage Kids Global Family Day

We are always looking for an adventure, so last month the boys and I headed to Central Park for Summer Stage Kids Global Family Day for an afternoon filled with performances, activity stations and tons of fun and excitement for kids of all ages. This was our first time at this annual event and we were pleasantly surprised with all there was to see and do and the awesome Free goodies that families got to take home.
When we first arrived we were greeted by Disney's VoluntEARs and the boys each took a turn at spinning the wheel to land on a healthy and fun physical activity to try out. Guests found themselves hopping on one foot, dribbling a basketball and hula-hooping. After the completion of the activity each guest was invited to choose from 4 Disney Blu-ray DVDs that included Pixar's Up, The Prince of Persia, G-Force and the Johnny Depp version of Alice in Wonderland. Other giveaways included puzzles, wrist bands, frisbees and Vinylmation Mickey Mouse collectible figurines.

My 34 month old Tristan totally chickened out of taking a picture with Jake from the Disney Junior show Jake and the Neverland Pirates and instead insisted that his big brother CJ do it. This only has me concerned  and is probably a good indicator of how the lil' monster will react when he sees all these ginormous characters next summer during our family trip to Disney World.

Princess lovers were thrilled to pose with the adorable Disney Junior character Sophia the First.

Kids got to take part in some Disney Junior television trivia and scored tattoo's and stickers while coloring treasure boxes that they got to fill up with other treats.

Most guests filled up the bleachers first that were shaded by trees, while others spread out blankets or grabbed a chair with family and friends to enjoy the line-up of Summer Stage performers. The show kicked off with the Natural Rhythm Expression Band that had the crowd tapping their feet and dancing to the sounds of the Caribbean with Steelband and Calypso music.

The dancers from IFETAYO youth ensemble were all smiles as they graced the stage and gave an artistic, beautiful, high energy performance.

Two of our favorite Children's singers, Grammy nominated singer Elizabeth Mitchell and Dan Zanes joined together to sing a few tunes to get the audience moving and singing along.

In between performances Tristan got his face painted for free in honor of his currently favorite Marvel character Spiderman and CJ tried getting creative while building towers with the imagination foam blocks.

Little pirates and princesses that came to party were in for a  special musical treat. Once the Jake and the Neverland Pirates band hit the stage, all the kids and their parents were singing "Yo ho Let's Go!"

Nemcatacoa Teatro amazed the crowd with it's acrobatic stilt walking performance that left my boys in awe, despite being a little creeped out by their makeup and mysterious music.

I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend a stay-cation with my family and the perfect ending was heading home, making popcorn and watching G-Force as the boys played with the rest of their goodies before calling it a night.

We will surely be marking our calendars to attend this Disney sponsored event with our monsters for years to come. It's really a great way to enjoy some entertaining, culture filled performances with the family for FREE right here in NYC. Summer Stage Kids Global Family Day is an event surely not to be missed out on and your kids will smile for hours.
