Happy New Year: Catching Up on Lived in NYC Moments

Happy New Year! Lmao, I know I'm a bit late but I think you can still say this till the end of January right? I'm finally resurfacing from some much needed unplugged time away as we overcame what seemed like never ending coughs and colds and got into the holiday spirit later than usual. We all know December can be a whirlwind time of year, and it's typically tough for me to sit down and update you all here on the blog between the Christmas shows at the kid's schools, the holiday parties and major purging we do to make space and de-clutter.

I'll usually just hop on Instagram and share quick posts, so we hope you're following our day to day over there at Dellahsjubilation and at lilmonstersinnycHubby was sweet enough to gift me with a chromebook after my laptop crashed but I'd spent so much time away from writing because of my frustration with working from a tablet, soon the draft posts just started to pile up. For 2019 I promise to get a bit more personal on this space like I used to when I first started and loved to tap away at the keyboard just for the sake of sharing. But Before I could dive into all the exciting new happenings I always like to wrap up our last adventures, so here's a look at our December 2018 moments:

Lil' Monsters in NYC: A Spring affair in Bryant Park & Around 5th Ave.

It seems kind of silly to post these snaps of me and the boys of the first day of spring in the city because the weather here in NYC has been just a bit chilly these last few days. I wouldn't put it past mother nature to give us a random snow storm before April is finished. I know, I know, I probably shouldn't even put that idea out into the universe because this has been the best winter I think us New Yorkers have seen in a crazy long time. Hope you enjoy the snaps and that Spring has truly sprung wherever you are!

The boys and I headed to Bryant Park, while we waited for The Hubby to get out of a meeting. It was so packed out there, everyone was enjoying their lunches outside.

Such a charming little carousel in the park.

It was our first time actually going into this huge New York Public Library. CJ loved the statue lions.

                                                             The Chrysler Building

Louboutin's 20th anniversary capsule collection sparkling from a Saks 5th Ave. window, I had to take pics.

We were totally in awe of this little secret hideaway we spotted btwn. 5th ave and Madison, somewhere in the early 50's streets. The Hubby and I were so caught up in not disturbing the lucky few that knew about this tiny little lunch spot we quickly took some pics and got one of the sweetest pics of Tristan to date.

We asked Tristan to sniff the tulip and my gentle giant walked over to the tulip and whacked it right off it's stem, picked it  up and inhaled. It wasn't exactly what we meant, but moments like that are so priceless.

Afterwards we made our way over to The Macaron Cafe for Macaron NYC Day, it was no surprise they were all out of freebies.

It didn't matter anyway, I was insistent that it would be the day we all tried them for the 1st time and we knew it would be worth it because despite there being no more samples, they still had a long line.

Tristan had the 1st tasting and is a fan of the dark chocolate flavored macaron. I had to put my camera down to clean up the sweet crumby, gooey delight he got all over his clothes!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend wherever you are and you can follow me and check out more pics  of this outing and everyday snaps of my cheeseball boys, The Hubby and I on Instagram @DellahsJubilation.

Live in the Moment,
Bunches of Xoxo's

Revel in *NYC* Nov. 11th - Nov. 13th

My favorite spot in Central Park source
What are you planning on getting into this weekend? This is just another jam packed weekend of activity here in NYC. There are some new museum exhibits: one that promotes being healthy and another that makes learning about history way more interactively fun.. If you have a low key weekend in mind the city is showing off it's true fall colors, maybe just a stroll through your fave neighborhood park is all you need.  I watched kids dive through piles of leaves in CJ's school yard and found a few beautiful "rainbow" colored trees. The leaves cascaded from red to orange, to yellow then green so beautifully. CJ, Tristan and I stopped in awe of the nature around us. Isn't it wonderful to take a second to take in something so simple yet so breathtakingly amazing in this sometimes crazy hectic city? Where are your favorite places to enjoy this season?

Friday Nov. 11th - Nov. 21st  ~ The 19th Annual Canstruction Competition ~
( 10am-6pm, Fri the 11th closes at 1pm, Mon. the 21st closes at 5pm) {E}
FREE/Taking canned food donations
Who says you can't make art out of food cans and labels strategically placed to look like the Super Mario Brothers, Trains, Mr. Potato head and so much more and then donate those canned goods to those in need. Canstruction is an annual design competition  between teams comprised of top architecture and engineering pros and food charity that builds unique structures entirely out of food cans. After structures are judged in categories like "Best use of labels" the cans are donated to City Harvest for distribution right in time for turkey day. I'm a little biased and in favor of the design  Roots for Hunger because one of my besties  is on the design team!
Roots of Hunger at this years 2011 competition has got my vote.

Last year's Mario and Luigi  canstruction was definitely CJ's top pick

As part of my graduate studies program in Elementary Education {teaching Elem science class}, I will be taking CJ to check out this national health initiative exhibit on Sunday. As we all know; one of the best ways to engage children in learning of any sort is through hands on experiences. In this fun, educational exhibit kids will experience the bodies organs up close through giant models (pumping blood through the heart), games (sleep deprived memorization challenge) and energy burning stations (balance beams, and exercise machines) all in the hopes of understanding how important it is to take care of their bodies. This weekends festival (Fri 10am-4:30pm, Sat. 10am- 4pm and Sun. 10am - 4:30pm) will have food, bed-time and fitness themed crafts like creating a vegetable puppet or a stamped pillow case.

(Check site for various times) {E} General Admission $12, Kids 13 and under $9
I have become a bit obsessed with Jim Henson's Muppets and their soon to be released movie on the 23rd of Nov. Have you read my tribute post to them? If you are anything like me then I think this film series is the temporary solution until the movies release. See puppets like you’ve never seen them before! Long before computer graphics, fantastic creatures came to life as puppets made of foam, fabric, metal, and wood. This festival features seven brand new documentaries about puppetry as well as a roster of fantasy films, Muppet movies, shorts from the US and around the world, New York premieres, gremlins, teenage mutant ninja turtles, and the story of an angry tire. Puppets on Film includes programs for both kids and adults alike.

Weekend Happenings // Things To do in NYC Sept.15th-18th

I promise i will get better at posting events and highlighting those that I think you guys will find  fun, unique or interesting in a more timely manner. I'm still getting use to scheduling blogging into my life. I'm definitely looking forward to the weekend. I've been so wrapped up in me and CJ going back to school and some other stuff. Now it's time to have fun and the city has an abundance of things to do this week.. So grab your besties,  plan a date day/evening or grab the kids and get out of the house!!

New York City's only working farm Queens County is having it's annual county fair on Saturday Sept. 17th and Sunday the 18th. We've been to this active farm several times in the past and it's a favorite field trip of CJ's school. I love that he can be a city kid and we can take the Q46 bus to the farm and he can jump in a pig pen (to this day he only calls pigs by the name of "bacon") or milk a cow (which he thought was really gross).
CJ during a school trip (2010) to the queens county farm introducing himself to a bunny.
I don't know if it's just me but when i think of county fairs I think of the book Charlotte's Web and Zuckermans famous pig Wilbur being entered into those pig competitions. Our moms & the D'Annas are joining me and my boys so it should be a great time. There will be blue ribbon competitions in livestock, produce, arts and crafts etc. The Maize maze will be fun to get lost in, there will also be a petting zoo, hayride and there will even be carnival rides.I'll have pics posted next week.
Admission: Adults $8.00; children (12 and under) $5.00
(Admission does not include maze, carnival rides/games and various other fair activities)
Location: 73-50 Little Neck Parkway .Floral Park, New York 11004-1129
