What are you planning on getting into this weekend? This is just another jam packed weekend of activity here in NYC. There are some new museum exhibits: one that promotes being healthy and another that makes learning about history way more interactively fun.. If you have a low key weekend in mind the city is showing off it's true fall colors, maybe just a stroll through your fave neighborhood park is all you need. I watched kids dive through piles of leaves in CJ's school yard and found a few beautiful "rainbow" colored trees. The leaves cascaded from red to orange, to yellow then green so beautifully. CJ, Tristan and I stopped in awe of the nature around us. Isn't it wonderful to take a second to take in something so simple yet so breathtakingly amazing in this sometimes crazy hectic city? Where are your favorite places to enjoy this season?

“For every person who comes in, it will be like exposing a film to the light and seeing what image develops" - C.H
We try to expose our oldest CJ to as many unique experiences in the city as possible, which means at times taking advantage of as many free admission days at museums as much as possible, be advised that several frugal families have the same idea in mind and some events can get rather crowded. When I think of funhouses I instantly think of Brooklyn's Coney Island, unfortunately these amusement park staples are a rarity these days. Höller was initially a scientist whose works look part laboratory and fun house and include: slides, distorted mirrors, walls and floors, and creepy corridors. I am looking forward to the steel twisty slide that will take you from the 4th floor to the 1st of the museum as you giggle and scream in delight (here's hoping we can get CJ to do it too), the beautiful mirrored carousel and to see who dares to partake in the "Giant Psycho Tank" a sensory deprivation tank. I'm intrigued based on descriptions of having an outer body and hallucinatory experience. During the Family event (recommended for children aged 4-15) re-imagine Carsten Höller’s 1991 performance Children Demonstrate for the Future, 1991, by creating posters, signs, stickers, and fliers to march in the name of the future.

Halloween is right around the corner with only 4 days to go! Do you have your costumes ready? did you decide to go the homemade route or the easy store brought option? We bought Tristan's Circus Tiger costume at a street fair for $10 , which was well worth it considering he's worn it for Pumpkin picking photos, at the Time Out New York Fall Festival (see photo on their site), he'll wear it tomorrow at our buildings Halloween party, at his birthday bash and trick or treating on Monday (poor costume has been washed three times already). We couldn't make Chris be just a clown for all of Halloween for the sake of his brother's birthday party. We knew all of his male chums would be in some sort of superhero costume so he will also be Dan from Bakugan ( It's OK if you have a raised eyebrow and not a clue what Bakugan is). Mike will be the ringmaster and I a circus clown as well (I needed an excuse to wear a tutu) and our costumes are a mix of what we owned and some new accessories!
If you have yet to make any plans for the weekend below are a few ideas (not all of them involve costumes, just in case you aren't really into Halloween). Make sure to check the website for any changes for events being held on Saturday due to the bad weather forecast. Snow in October? strange!
