'The Main Event' on Netflix: Review & Interview with Tichina Arnold and Seth Carr

Disclosure: This review and interview was written in partnership with Netflix, opinions expressed are 100% our own.

You don't need to be a wrestling fan to enjoy watching Netflix's newly released film 'The Main Event' because it's the perfect, light-hearted comedy to lighten the mood and pile-drive into the weekend with your family. Now for those of you that are new to our site, I must admit we're a bit biased over here as big-time WWE wrestling fans for years. We were really excited to learn of the two new projects the streaming network launched this month in partnership with WWE Studios.

We may not get to cheer on our fave WWE superstars live in any arena till the corona pandemic is under control but we can stay home and make it a movie night! No judgments but for some reason watching wrestling is one way our family likes to just chill and relax. Well, that's until we have to play referee & stop the boys from tossing each other around and flipping from couch to couch while choreographing their matches. The moment the bell rings you'll find them awkwardly twisting their bodies into submission holds in the midst of half laughing and crying before someone taps out.

Thanks to Netflix we had the chance to screen The Main Event early and my future WWE tag team boys Chris and Tristan joined me in our NYC apartment for a fun zoom interview with two of the stars of the movie, Tichina Arnold (Everybody Hates Chris, Martin) who we didn't realize was originally from our hometown of Queens, NY and young actor Seth Carr who's known for his role as young Killmonger in Marvel's Black Panther.

Netflix launching 2 new projects for WWE fans to stream: The Big Show Show and the Main Event film

This past weekend wrapped up the biggest night(s) of the year for wrestling fans as we tuned into Wrestlemania 36, a welcomed distraction from all of the news flying around about the current coronavirus pandemic. As the only major sporting event to air globally, many viewers were torn between the idea of the show carrying on in an empty arena with no high energy chanting from the crowd of 80,000 viewers or over the top pyro and larger than life characters vs postponing the highly anticipated battles between our favorite WWE superstars to a later date.

We caught the first night and got such a kick out of the boneyard match with The Undertaker and AJ Styles, this was definitely an out of the box and entertaining moment. There were some great surprises and overall it was a history-making showcase of talent that will be talked about for a long time.

Now that it's over, Netflix is helping us all stay entertained while bunkered down at home and bringing us some family-friendly fun with two exciting new project collaborations with the WWE: The Big Show Show series starring world wrestling entertainment superstar The Big Show, Paul Wright and a new original film 'The Main Event' starring Seth Carr and Tichina Arnold.

'My Spy' Starring Dave Bautista Advanced NYC Screening Passes Giveaway

Newly retired, Dave Bautista is probably most famously known for his role inside the ring as a WWE superstar and six-time world champion "Batista" and has made a name for himself in Hollywood as an actor in several SCi-Fi based films like Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers Endgame, Avengers Infinity War, Riddick, Blade Runner 2049 and more. We'll never forget the time we saw him and his partners of the Evolution return for a legendary battle against The Shield during our first WWe pay-per-view event Extreme Rules.

It's always funny and maybe even a bit awkward watching these super muscular wrestlers like John Cena in Playing with Fire, act alongside their mini castmates. Although Bautista is no longer showing off his strength in iconic fights on television we are excited to see how he matches up alongside his adorable sidekick Chloe Coleman on the big screen in the new movie 'My Spy' which hits theaters this Friday, March 13th.

Kid Reporters Attend NYC Premiere and Interview John Cena and The Cast of Playing with Fire

What's tougher, being a smokejumper battling dangerous wildfires, a wrestling superstar throwing down in the ring in front of thousands of audiences daily or juggling three witty, high energy kids who keep you on your toes? I'm sure if you ask the adult cast of Paramount Pics' new film Playing with Fire, they'd say that babysitting is no easy feat, even if they're just acting. This month NYC family bloggers and content creators had the chance to attend the Premiere of the family-friendly new film and our mini reporters were handed the mic to ask all the important questions to the cast and Director on everything from what inspires them, owning up to their mistakes & their fave hilarious moments in the movie.

Meeting WWE Superstar Roman Reigns Who Announces Partnership to Bring Awareness to Pediatric Cancer

Despite the screaming fans and blinged-out championship belts, I try to remind my boys that their favorite WWE superstars are really just everyday people who face up and down moments juts like the rest of us. When you think of the high-energy talent that battles it out, night after night, it's hard to believe that our fave wrestlers could be faced with a life-threatening illness while still trying to entertain thousands of fans. This week Roman Reigns opens up about his battle with Leukemia and his partnership with Leukemia Lymphoma Society as part of his commitment and determination to keep fighting for patients and families.

Nickelodeon's Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader Returns with WWE Superstar John Cena

"You Can't See Me" is WWE superstar John Cena's infamous tagline, but it's the furthest from the truth because we can see him practically EVERYWHERE these days. From mainstream movies on the big screen to commercials w/ our favorite household brands on the small screen and even a children's book about a little monster truck with guts, the professional wrestler and actor has been solidifying his career outside of the ring as rumors swirl about his retirement. Nickelodeon is launching the family fun game show, Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader, with a week of premieres beginning Mondy, June 10th, at 7:00pm. (ET/PT). Hosted by John Cena, who also serves as executive producer. We love this show and play kids against grownups while tuned in and can't wait for the revamped series to start!

3 Lessons from Fighting With My Family and Q&A with WWE Divas Champ Paige and Cast #FightingwithMyFamily

Watching Wrestling in our family is going 4 generations strong so when I think about all the cool and random moments we’ve had it’s really crazy to look back on all of our WWE experiences. My maternal grandmother {gramps} and my dad first introduced me to the sport and I was instantly hooked, naming my one boy cabbage patch doll after Virgil a professional wrestler for the WWF.

Fast forward to adulthood and my two boys CJ and Tristan have been fans of the WWE universe for nearly 5 years and have crazy dreams of becoming professional tag team partners one day. You can only imagine how excited we were to be invited to an early screening of Annapurna picture's new film "Fighting with My Family" - the life story of one of our fave WWE Divas Champ Paige!

Unleash Your Warrior in the Fight Against Breast Cancer with WWE and Susan G. Komen

Having to persevere with Crohn's, a chronic auto immune disease for nearly 2 decades, there have been incredible lows as I battled painful flare-ups, two bowel resection surgeries and a combination of bi-monthly infusions and hundreds of pills prescribed just to maintain. I am always in awe and fully support the women and men who have to face any life altering illness like Breast Cancer. To coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, WWE is continuing its partnership with Susan G. Komen for the sixth consecutive year by encouraging fans to take action in the fight against breast cancer through the “Unleash Your Warrior” campaign.

Unleash Your Warrior celebrates everyday heroes making a difference in the fight against breast cancer, encouraging them to “Be Strong, Act Bold, Always Believe,” a sentiment echoed by WWE Hall of Famer The Ultimate Warrior.

Disclosure: The WWE provided me with an Unleash Your Warrior Tshirt to support this campaign as a WWE Mom Ambassador. The opinions expressed are 100% my own.

{VIDEO} Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ninja Superstars Stop Motion Action #MustHavesforLilMonsters #WWESuperstars

Disclosure: We were provided the action figures to facilitate the stop motion video, no other compensation was received and opinions expressed are 100% our own.

Hands down two of the most iconic brands that I obsessed over as an 80's baby were the WWE and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, can you blame me? Most people won't believe that my dad & gramps introduced me to what was once the World Wrestling Federation {The WWF} back in the day but it's true she loved watching legendary superstars like "Macho Man" Randy Savage and Sting in the ring. My grandmother would let us stay up late to watch pay-per-view matches, only for us to wake up early on the weekends to binge watch those pizza loving, bad guy fighting TMNT cartoons. I find it just a bit hysterical and pretty damn cool that I have two boys who are also huge fans of both lines, all jokes aside I seriously unwind from a long week tuning in with them and we have a blast! So imagine how hyped we were when we spotted on the Ringside Collectibles Instagram the new WWE Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ninja Superstars from Playmates & Nickelodeon.

Working It Out with WWE Women's Revolution at Tapout Fitness #TapoutFitness #WomensRevolution

Honestly, I have no idea what possessed me into believing that it was a smart idea to join the phenomenal WWE Women's Revolution along with television personality & NY Times best selling author, Maria Menuonos in a workout event at Tapout Fitness, other than the fact that I've been an admiring fan of these hard-working, driven and athletic women for years! As part of the the WWE Summer Slam NYC Take Over my blogger babes and I, alongside other media outlets and WWE universe super fans joined in on a 60 minute class that had us all sweating, or as WWE superstar Naomi would say "Glowing". After a stressful morning of dealing with extended family drama, working it out in my head & in the gym was a more than welcomed way for me to clear my head! I was almost deterred from going because I was mentally drained but knew i'd regret missing out on an opportunity to get my adrenaline pumping in a positive way.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows Review #TMNT2

Unless you've been living underground in the sewers over nearly the last 3 decades {I can't believe they've been around that long, hubby says I'm dating myself}, you are oh too familiar with the multi-generational, beyond cool, TMNT pop-culture franchise that has ensued a long lasting surge of Turtle Mania worldwide. Earlier this month I had the chance, thanks to Paramount Pictures to treat my boys and long time friend Sergio to an early screening of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows that picks up right were the   version leaves off and follows the return of the heroic foursome Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo and Raphael who return to battle notorious bad guys who plan to take over the world.

THE V FOUNDATION AND WWE® LAUNCH NATIONAL PARTNERSHIP TO FIGHT PEDIATRIC CANCER #aCAUSEforJUBILATION

Pediatric Cancer

Children are just so resilient, even in the face of adversity in situations where most adults would crumble and it just breaks my heart to know so many have to fight to persevere against Cancer. Having been diagnosed with a chronic auto-immune disease in my late teens I could never imagine a child of any age having to endure some of the awful symptoms of battling a terminal illness like Cancer and the toll it takes on them not only physically but mentally. If you're a fan of the WWE then you are all too familiar with the story of the vibrant, humorous, cancer-fighter Connor Michalek, an 8 year old who inspired everyone who was in presence or watched him from a television screen across the WWE Universe. His passing in 2014 of pediatric brain cancer was just heart wrenching to watch as a mom, and Connor "The Crushers" story of hope and resilience will never be forgotten!

Pediatric Cancer

In an effort to help find cures for pediatric cancer, WWE (NYSE: WWE) and The V Foundation for Cancer Research announced a multi-year partnership to support cancer research nationally through funds raised by Connor’s Cure. The announcement was made at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where Connor’s Cure was originally established, with representatives from the hospital, WWE and The V Foundation. In 2014, Connor’s Cure was created by WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon and WWE Executive Vice President Talent, Live Events & Creative Paul “Triple H” Levesque as a fund within Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation to support pediatric brain and spinal cord cancer research.

Tune into Wrestlemania 32 on the WWE Network & Our Winner Predictions #WWEMoms #Wrestlemania

WWE Network

Let the countdown begin! As I write this my boys and I are currently tuned into the WWE Network and having ourselves a Wrestlemania marathon of years past as we await tonight's big night flashing back to year 31 & Randy Orton's win over Seth Rollins, the legendary match up between Triple H and Sting, and the hard to watch defeat of Roman Reigns to the beast Brock Lesnar}.Wrestlemania is comparable to the Superbowl where we'll all witness the blood, sweat and tears of the greatest Superstars and Divas to ever enter the ring for this 32nd year! Having grown up watching wrestling with my grandmother and my dad It's no surprise I've been a long time fan for nearly 3 decades! We tuned into the Hall of Fame ceremony last night and I literally got choked up right along Ric Flair as he talked about Dusty Rhodes and Rowdy Piper, two phenomenal men who I grew up watching and cheered on. It's always great to share the excitement with my two boys, even when we seem to disagree on some of the wins for this grand event, nonetheless what we can all agree on is that tonight is going to be EPIC! Or in the words of the Rock Electrifying!

WWE Superstar Xavier Woods and WWE Diva Naomi Celebrate Diversity During Black History Month

I'm a mom to two Jamaican-American boys who sport long locs & have vibrant personalities and although they are brothers who share similar interests there are quite a few things that set them apart. t's important to my husband and I to have the boys understand that their differences are what make them special, from physical traits to talents and everything in between. Black History Month is the perfect time to sit down with them to discuss diversity and embracing not only each other's differences but those of their peers and within society. It's a great way for us to discuss the achievements of African Americans of the past and present but we believe it's also a conversation that can be had, and is relevant all year round. As fans of the WWE the boys truly admire the WWE Superstars and Divas and it's great that these professionals can share their experiences with racism and teach kids of all ages how to overcome obstacles. On the WWE blog, WWE Diva Naomi and Superstar Xavier Woods share their Black History Month Reflections:

Naomi Black History Month Blog

Black History Month presents an important opportunity, not only to celebrate the countless achievements of African Americans and their role in shaping our history and culture, but also to reflect on where we are now as a nation, and how we can continue to grow together.  Black History Month should be a time to learn from mistakes that were made in the past and aspire to a time when the only race that defines us is the human race.

Like so many African American children, I grew up dealing with racism and ignorance, and I know kids across the country are still dealing with the same obstacles.  That is why I love to work outside of the ring and spread positive messages, just as much as I love performing inside the ring.  When I interact with young fans, I want to instill a sense of confidence in each and every child, just as my mother did for me.  For 35 years, my mother worked tirelessly to support my brother and me.  She was always there to make sure I stayed on track, even when I wanted to give up or when someone told me I wasn’t good enough.  She made sure the word “quit” wasn’t in my vocabulary.  Throughout my entire life, I’ve never seen my mother quit.  Everyone has their insecurities, but I learned early on that no one but me can determine my worth or decide my limitations.  That is the message I hope to pass on to every person questioning themselves and their ability.

It’s so important to me that my fans know their inner beauty and self-worth, and that they never allow someone else’s label to limit their success.  I knew that I was destined to be a WWE Diva and refused to give up.  I live by the mantra, “Don’t follow your dreams, chase them,” and I hope the young fans watching me perform know that if I was able to become a WWE Diva, they can achieve their wildest dreams too.  I’m here because I beat the odds and so can you.

While I am proud to represent black women, my role as a Diva and an athlete is to be an empowering voice for women, period.  Regardless of race, we all want the same things: love, respect and our individuality.  My hope for the future is that, by loving what makes each of us different, we will learn to celebrate the diversity of those around us.  There’s no better time than now to look in the mirror, find what we love about the reflection staring back, and widen the lens through which we view each other.

Xavier Woods – Black History Month Blog

Black History Month is an important time to celebrate the influence African-Americans had on history, but it’s also important to recognize that this history isn’t just “black history,” it’s everyone’s history.

While we’ve come a long way in a relatively short amount of time, we have far to go and it’s so important to me that I continue my family’s legacy of progression.  My grandmother is the strongest person I know.  She lived through hardships I can’t imagine and made so many sacrifices in order for her children and her children’s children to benefit and lead a better life.  Because of her sacrifices and the sacrifices of so many others, I’m able to pursue an education and live out my dreams.  That’s why, in addition to being a WWE Superstar, I am actively working on attaining my PhD.  Despite the hardships my grandmother faced, she is one of the most positive people I’ve ever met.  She always has a smile on her face and that has had a profound effect on me.  I always look for the positive in life and never stop trying to better myself.

Back in high school, there was a wrestler, who was a few years older than me and the star athlete of the team.  After he graduated, I won the first big tournament of the year.  I was so excited and commented to my coach that I felt just like that star athlete that had graduated.  He said, “Why? You should feel like Austin Watson.  You should never compare yourself to anyone around you.”  That stuck with me.  It taught me to be proud of who I am and my own achievements, whether that’s winning a match or not conforming to anyone else’s idea of who I am or should be.  That’s something I really try to pass along to the kids I meet as a WWE Superstar.  Growing up, I didn’t have great social skills, but I found that I was able to better communicate and find friends through video games.  That’s actually what brought me out of my shell and lead me to pursue sports.  Of course, being a young, black “nerd” who liked to play video games wasn’t considered “cool,” and I got picked on.  In adolescence, you look to your peers who are “cool” and “popular” and you let them define who you think you should be rather than celebrate what makes you unique.  Being a gamer is what makes me unique and fun!  There is no need to be ashamed of who you are and what makes you happy.

Regardless of race, it is important to live by your own standards and not those set for you by society.  We are all individual people, not groups labeled according to color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc.  I hope that we can use Black History Month as a reminder to build bridges rather than boxes.

How do you teach your children about diversity and the importance of Black History Month?
