Building Self Esteem with City Parks Foundation Summer Sports Program #LilMonstersinNYC

It's the summer Tristan has been waiting for! He's six and a half and finally old enough to participate in the free sports programs hosted by the City Parks Foundation in local playgrounds around the 5 boroughs of New York. Every summer for the last six years he's been watching his big brother CJ leap hurdles during Track and Field at Juniper Park  and practice his tennis swing at Cunningham Park and he's always wanted to step off the sidelines to show his ever growing grit on the field and courts. For the first year ever, the city introduced soccer to the roster which has always been a sport he's wanted to play, so this FREE program was a definite must to add to our Mommy Camp schedule.

Spider-Man HomeComing: Press Junket and Review from Queens Proxy Blogger #SpidermanHomeComing

Sometimes being your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man just isn't enough! Spider-Man Homecoming was released in theaters nationwide on July 7th, 2017 and before it's premier I had the exciting chance to cover a press junket with a few local NYC + west coast bloggers and media. Not only am I not a real reporter, I'm not a "real" blogger but Danielle's long time Queens neighbor, friend since High School & proxy for her blog when she's not available. The movie is definitely thoroughly a high school movie: the actors actually look like teenagers and the relational dynamics they build between the characters are very dimensional.

Having spent my childhood and currently raising my gaggle of three in the borough, extra kudos to Marvel & Sony for making the population of a Queens high school look very ethnically diverse without having to supply an explanation for it. When the producer Amy Pascal was asked during the press junket what was the inspiration for that she answered (rightfully so): "Reality." It got a big positive reaction from the crowd.

Kick off Summer with Chef Capon and Pine Mountain ExtremeStart Fire Starters #PineMTNGrilling

Disclosure: We were invited to attend & opinions expressed are 100% my own.
Who doesn't love a good cookout, with yummy food, friends and family, music and games? Our family surely does! But I have to admit that one of my biggest pet peeves during family functions, especially the ones that we host is that my hubby is always slaving in the kitchen, or during the summer months - stuck behind the grill. To him it's no big deal because in his eyes grilling is the quintessential thing to do as often as possible, all summer long. It doesn't matter the day of the week, Mike enjoys throwing down probably just as much as we all love stuffing our faces with the food he prepared. Last week we were invited to "The Grilling Games" presented by Pine Mountain® firestarters and firelogs and Royal Oak®charcoal which had Chef Chef Josh Capon, the executive chef behind Lure Fishbar, B&B Winepub and El Toro Blanco in New York City as their special host.

Summer Looks for Stylish Kids from Orchestra and $50 Gift Card Giveaway #AD #MustHavesforLilMonsters

Disclosure: We received a gift card as compensation for this post.
Opinions expressed are 100% our own.

Now that school is out for the summer our travel planning is in full swing and we're currently on the hunt for a new Summer wardrobe for CJ & Tristan as we get ready for our family reunion in Atlanta. I'd always thought shopping for boys wouldn't be as fun, especially after noticing how limited the selections were in major retailers when our tween was born. If you've seen one plaid shirt, you've seen them all! As parents we've always got an eye out for stylish, quality pieces with an affordable price tag that our boys will love rockin'. You have no idea how excited I was when introduced to Orchestra, a French clothing line for kids that launched online this Spring in the United States and at The King of Prussia mall in Philadelphia.

Rev Your Engines and Grab Tickets to Disney Pixar's Cars 3 NYC Advance Screening #Giveaway #Cars3

Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post but we were given passes to attend and to facilitate this giveaway. Opinions expressed are 100% my own.

Countless weekend hours were spent by my boys kneeling on the floor as they pushed around mini hot wheel figures of their favorite Disney Pixar Cars characters. The Cars movie franchise is one that our kids have grown up loving and watching over and over, each time being just as entertaining as the last. We've been trying to contain our excitement as we countdown to June 16th when Disney Pixar's Cars 3 races into theaters nationwide.

Just last month my girlfriend Marta and her hubby took their gaggle and our lil' monsters to the Road to the Races Tour at Atlas Park to check out the cars, preview a snippet of the movie and more. I can admit that I was pretty bummed that the hubby and I couldn't see our boys reactions to seeing the race cars in full size. We can only imagine how hyped they all were when they stepped inside of  the long tractor trailer that featured a pretty cool movie theater for guests to view clips before it's release.

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post, opinions expressed are 100% my own.

The 2017 New York Baby Show was bigger and better than ever with over 5,000 families in attendance! It was the place to be for new and expectant parents to discover the latest trends and innovations in baby gear, listen in and ask questions to experts on panel, learn how to capture the best photos and so much more. Let' be honest with so many options out there it can be so overwhelming to decide on what you will absolutely need to get you through those first few years and of course there are the products that may not be a necessity but have you swooning nonetheless. Earlier this month my sissy Nicole, my 13 month old nephew baby Q and I were invited by Momtrends to Pier 94 for an afternoon of fun while checking out the coolest must haves for lil' monsters and essential services to make life simpler as a new parent.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Advanced Screening #aPiratesdeathforme

There's been so much buzz around Disney's highly anticipated Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales release in theaters on May 26th. The movie franchise always hits the mark with daring stunt filled adventures and snarky humor & has become a fave of my hubby and I! Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.” The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea—notably Jack.

Amelie: The Quirky Broadway Adaptation #AmelieBroadway

Disclosure: We were provided with media passes to facilitate this review, opinions expressed are my own.

It's always interesting to go to a Broadway show with no expectations for the performance, which is what I had when I viewed Amelie with my former work-wifey and friend Erin who is a huge fan of the original 2001 film. Having not seen the film prior to the show {you can check out the movie on Netflix by the way} I went in with an open mind and couldn't wait to see Tony nominee Phillipa Soo's performance after hearing and reading all of the buzz about her performance in Hamilton as Alexander Hamilton's wife.

"Kachow, Kachow" Disney Pixar's Cars was the very first and long time favorite movie of our tween son CJ and it's a miracle that the DVD still plays after the hundreds of times we've watched it. As a family we can't wait for Cars 3 to hit theaters and we're certain it will be full of action and laughs! While fans countdown for the release of the latest installment they can check out Cars 3 Road to the Races, a nationwide tour inviting fans of #95 Lightening McQueen to a fun filled afternoon of activities and a sneak peek of the movie. Mazda's New Rides and Girls Night Out at The 2017 New York Auto Show #NYIAS #AD

2017 marks the fifth year that She Buys Cars has partnered up with The New York International Auto Show to host bloggers and influencers for an amazing Girls Night Out where we had the opportunity to check out the latest automotive eye candy from some of the best brands {Mazda, Genesis, Toyota and Hyundai} in the car industry. It's personally one of my favorite nights of the year, where we head to the Jacob Javits center to check out the latest & hottest vehicles & trends coming out before the masses on opening day of the auto show. This year I had the wonderful opportunity to attend as a Mazda ambassador which was a pretty awesome pairing seeing as our family absolutely loves their line of vehicles and have had the chance to test drive a few working with Driveshop & Mazda over the last two years.

Spring Themed Crafts & Treats with Wonderful Halos #MTHalosFun #ad

It takes a lot to keep us indoors on the weekends here in New York, with so much to do we're typically out and about looking to start a new adventure & it's always a must to have a few sweet treats on hand to energize us throughout the day. Bonus points if it's something that's not only tasty but healthy to boot! That's the wonderful thing about Halos, they're juicy and sweet and definitely a favorite among my citrus loving boys! This month my oldest & mini me CJ and I headed out on one of the windiest days in New York to enjoy a morning of spring time crafting at the Children's Museum of the Arts.

MYTHBUSTERS the Explosive Exhibition at the Liberty Science Center #MTMyth #LilMonstersinNYC #ad

"Science isn't just for scientists and people in lab coats - it's something that everybody can do everyday", those words sound like something my MythBusters loving husband would say but this was in fact the sentiment of Dan Tapster, Executive Producer of the Discovery Channel Show "MYTHBUSTERS". As a former elementary and preschool teacher and a mama to two boys one in grade school, the other in middle school I couldn't agree more. Children should recognize lessons on science in the world around them and the daily activities they partake in. The New "MYTHBUSTERS, Explosive Exhibition {running through September 2017} at the Liberty Science center encourages an interactive, hands on experience that will inspire curiosity in kids of all ages.

2-for-1 Tickets to see "In Transit" on Broadway in Support of the Children's Health Fund #ad

Did you know that 3.3 million children in the United States have no health insurance? I kid you not, over the last two months alone we have had way more visits to the pediatrician for both of our lil' monsters than I recall in a very long time. It got to the point where all our pediatrician would say was "back again?". As soon as one kid stopped sneezing rockets of cooties, the other would start coughing up everything inside of him and as I type this our youngest is battling high fevers & binge watching Netflix as he let's the ibuprofen work it's magic. Tristan has earned himself an extended midwinter break as most NYC kids headed back to the classroom today, as a former teacher I'd never be that parent to send my sick child back to school masked by pain medicine.

Our pediatrician had prescribed medication that wasn't covered by our insurance and was a whopping $60 or so, which isn't a lot of money per say but for "cough medicine" I can't imagine needing to have those orders filled so frequently. Just consider the anxiety families with no health insurance must deal with when faced with the symptoms of everyday colds, the flu, chronic illnesses and more. Thankfully for the last 25 years the Children's Health Fund has been battling barriers to health care for homeless and other low-income children.

3 Reasons Why You'll Love Watching Jungle Jim's Musical Adventures with your Child & A Special Offer for Readers #ad

This post is part of a sponsored campaign for Jungle Jim - A Musical Wildlife Adventure. I received compensation for my participation, but my review and opinions are my own.

No matter the season my boys are always asking if they can go to our local zoo, especially our youngest who is completely fascinated by each animal's characteristics and abilities.
We even joined a nature club at the Bronx zoo & joined other families as we explored the plants and surroundings in the rain and snow & toured the exhibits to learn about an array of creatures. It was a lot of fun but let's be honest, weekly trips to the zoo aren't always feasible so we're always on the look out for educational books and programming like Jungle Jim's Musical Adventures to encourage our kids to think about the world around them and the creatures that inhabit our planet out in the wild and that are cared for in their favorite zoo's and aquariums.

Enter to Win a Fandago Card to see The Lego Batman Movie in NYC for Free

Gotham's winged-cape crusading vigilante who loves darkness and who's surprisingly a fan of his alone time in red silk robes while binge watching romantic comedies {like When Harry Met Sally for instance} may love to rid the city of evil solo, but at some point will realize that one is truly the loneliest number. The Lego Batman movie is a must see with or without the kids if you are a fan of the classic brick toys and DC comic characters.

True Heroes are Timeless: Celebrate Black History Month with the Disney Channel

Now more than ever and not just for the month of February, as a parent and educator I feel it's essential to celebrate diversity and to embrace one's culture. Whether it's casual talks about our own families history as an African-American mother, who's married to a Jamaican-American or through shows and social media that inspire conversation, during Black History Month we always seek out positive ways to explore what it means to be African American. With the help of popular programming on the Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior children can enjoy shows that reflect on history and inspire kids to dream big.

Celebrate Diversity with Sesame Street Live: Make a New Friend and 25% off on Tickets #ad

Having grown up and now raising our own two children here in NYC it's always been an amazing learning experience because of the diverse mix of people that live here and visit from other countries on a daily. In our very own building, because we live close to the airport our boys have managed to make friends with children who's parents are here on business with the United Nations, from Egypt, Dubai, Japan and more. It's wonderful to see how they embrace each other and help their friends adjust to being here, especially those who don't speak English very well yet. From early on we've taught our boys not to judge others based on the color of their skin, religions etc and to accept everyone's beautiful differences. As cliche as it sounds the world would be rather boring if we were all the same. Sesame Street Live is back in New York with their show "Make a New Friend" which shows our lil' monsters how to celebrate friendship and similarities despite cultural differences.

Babes of All Ages Protect Your Booty with a Barre Class and Boudreaux's Buttpaste #ButtpasteBooty #Sponsored

Dislcosure: This Post is Sponsored by Momtrends & Boudreaux's Buttpaste. Opinions expressed 100% my own!

Leave it to a Booty focused Barre class in the Exhale Fitness and Spa at the Gansevoort Hotel, a chat about the newest line of protective pastes for a babies bum from Boudreaux's Buttpaste & your 35th birthday to remind you that you aren't getting any younger!  I hate working out alone so I will adjust my schedule as needed when a call for a group fitness class comes along. I'm way more motivated to work up a sweat these days with a tribe of my favorite mama's and girlfriends. As a mom and former preschool teacher those roles ended up keeping me tone and fit as I tried to keep up with all of my littles nearly 15 hours a day, plus my energy level was zilch after the commute from Midtown back to Queens during rush hour.  At work during the lunch & diapering {a.ka. the most ridiculously chaotic portion of they day}, it felt like a mad dash getting one lil' monster after the either wiped and de-crusted, while others started to smell a little less than baby powder fresh and their tushies agitated. Squatting down to pick them up, sometimes leg lifts over wooden safety gates {because their was mess everywhere} while easing them on to the table with a calmly hum song, just to bend down again to grab the wipes and sometimes greatly needed Boudreaux's buttpaste

{VIDEO} Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ninja Superstars Stop Motion Action #MustHavesforLilMonsters #WWESuperstars

Disclosure: We were provided the action figures to facilitate the stop motion video, no other compensation was received and opinions expressed are 100% our own.

Hands down two of the most iconic brands that I obsessed over as an 80's baby were the WWE and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, can you blame me? Most people won't believe that my dad & gramps introduced me to what was once the World Wrestling Federation {The WWF} back in the day but it's true she loved watching legendary superstars like "Macho Man" Randy Savage and Sting in the ring. My grandmother would let us stay up late to watch pay-per-view matches, only for us to wake up early on the weekends to binge watch those pizza loving, bad guy fighting TMNT cartoons. I find it just a bit hysterical and pretty damn cool that I have two boys who are also huge fans of both lines, all jokes aside I seriously unwind from a long week tuning in with them and we have a blast! So imagine how hyped we were when we spotted on the Ringside Collectibles Instagram the new WWE Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ninja Superstars from Playmates & Nickelodeon.

The Original Harlem Globetrotters Debut Basketball's First 4-point Line & 25% off Tickets #ad

Every Saturday morning my dad would lace up and grab his basketball and meet our cousin for a couple of games in a park nearby and if us kids were lucky he'd take us a long too. At the end of the game I'd beg them to teach me how to spin a basketball on my finger and made them watch me two or three times while I attempted to dribble the ball in between my legs and behind my back. As I type this, I'm all of a sudden humming "Sweet Georgia Brown" and remembering running to the television every time the infamous Harlem Globetrotters were on. Talk about skill! Not only could they play the game, but they managed to dazzle the multi-generational crowd with every twirl & dunk that had everyone up on their feet in excitement. Growing up in Lefrak City in Queens we had a lot of great players on our community courts, and one of our neighbor's kids "Bones Millien"  even went on to fulfill his dream of playing for the Globetrotters.

If you're here in NYC, don’t miss The Original Harlem Globetrotters at Madison Square Garden February 19th & 20th with THREE amazing games!

Ariana Grande and John Legend Featured in the Beauty and the Beast Final Trailer #BeautyandtheBeast

I don't know about you but in no particular order,  Disney's Beauty and the Beast is definitely hands down one of my top five favorites and that's including all of the Pixar films. Being the avid reader that I was I'd always been so jealous of Belle's gift from the Beast - a wall to wall, ceiling to floor library seemed like the coolest thing ever to me. It even inspired this Reading Space Pinterest board. When I was a tween I remember my parents taking my sissy Nicole and I to see it on Broadway and the "Be Our Guest" scene being absolutely mesmerizing. To this day we tease my sister because I think it was her first Broadway show and she jumped out of her seat to give a standing ovation - she had to be like six years old and she was so enthused, yelling "Brava, Brava!" She was seriously such a drama queen.

Seeing the film brought to life on the big stage under all the lights was one of the most amazing theatrical experiences I'd ever had as a kid. And now that one of our animated childhood favorites just celebrated it's 25th anniversary we can all anxiously count down until March 17th when it hit's movie theaters as a live-action movie!

Have you had the chance to hear Ariana Grande and John Legend sing the classic "Beauty and the Beast"? It's perfect!

Check out the final trailer below as they sing of a tale as old as time...........

Celebrating National Hug Day, the Care Bears 35th Anniversary & a 12th Birthday with Sprinkles #NationalHugDay #SprinklesXCarebears #ad

Disclosure: We were provided cupcakes to celebrate! Opinions expressed are 100% our own.

Can you think of a better way to cheer up on a dreary Friday that tops hugs or Carebears? Keep in mind that this is a kid / family friendly site so please keep all answer PG-13 for the moment, but I can just imagine, lol. Flashbacking in time to the days where 80's babies everywhere belted out the call for a "Carebear stare" makes me realize that like me, these vibrant loving bears are celebrating their 35th anniversary and are aging fantastically! Ha!

What's even cooler is that my mini me and twin Aquarius son CJ is celebrating his 12th birthday on January 21st which is also "National Hug Day" which is beyond fitting because CJ is the best hugger ever and knows the absolute most comforting times to dole them out. So just imagine how excited I was as a millennial mama to find out that Sprinkles the cupcake bakery had the perfect themed cupcakes to celebrate.

Remembering Lived in Moments Through Laughter & Love with the Mazda CX-3 #DriveMazda #Bestof2016

Looking back on 2016 for a lot of people means remembering some pretty awful moments whether personally or in the news. Moments that may have made your heartache, ones that may have made you frustrated or angry but one thing my hubby Mike is always encouraging me to do, is to seek out the positive in every lived in moment big or small. Having the ability to just pick up and go in a reliable car is a top priority for families, whether it's the daily trips to your grocery store or to create long lasting memories with friends and family. When setting off on the road the last thing you want to worry about is the safety of your loved ones. Compact in size and perfect for our family of four the Mazda CX-3 allowed us to celebrate a long time friends birthday, witness the union of two Blue Sky film makers, dab with clowns and make an urgent spur of the moment visit to see our favorite uncle.

Have a Magical Weekend with Disney's Mickey and the Roadster Racers #DisneyJunior

Typically by this time of year we've all been hit with a bit of cabin fever but it seems with the unseasonably warm temperatures lately, we'd be foolish to stay home with the little ones. Disney's Mickey and the Roadster Racers  in theaters by popular demand this Saturday, January 14th at select theaters nationwide.

Disney Junior at the Movies –   Plan for a day filled with family fun that should not be missed while celebrating Mickey's Birthday when this new animated series makes it's way to the BIG screen. You can sing and dance along with all your Disney Junior favorites, so grab the wheel and join the fun!

{VIDEO} TODAY Show Appearance with The Toy Insider and Custom 3D Printed Skylanders Imaginator #Giveaway #MustHavesforLilMonsters

During my two days off a week I love to have my morning talk shows playing in the background and usually the segments that manage to tear my eyes away from my laptop screen are any having to do with shopping, fashion or travel. Ok and a few of the ratchet celebrity stories. So Imagine how excited we were when our blogging buddy Adam of Dadarocks.com hit me up to ask if we'd be interested in having our son CJ appear on the Today Show since he knew we were big Skylanders fans. All CJ ever dreams about is his chance to act on a television show, so the chance to demo Skylanders Imaginators for Laurie Schect "The Toy Insider" during a Black Friday Segment was going to be huge deal since he'd be playing one of his favorite video games.

Disclosure: We were gifted a Skylanders Imaginators set for CJ's demo on the show.  No other compensation was received and opinions expressed are 100% our own!
